Resume for the Contracting Consultant

I have found in he past that it is difficult to build a resume when you are working as an independent business development contractor. When one works on projects as a contractor, it can appear that you are always changing jobs, which is true in a sense, but is also just the nature of working as an independent contractor and does not speak of your tenacity and reliability. I have discovered the answer to my dilemma.

First, I have found that it is important to submit a resume even when you are contracting. It looks far more professional and it gives you a chance to market yourself to larger companies that may have a need for a specific project that they are launching, but do not want to hire a person because it is not a permanent project. Especially in this current economy, it makes more sense for companies to enter into a contract for a specific project. This helps them eliminate the usual payroll expenses and allows them more flexibility in extending or aborting depending on results. An important part of this process is a well developed resume showcasing your strengths and skill set.

The solution that I have found is really quite simple and I am not sure why I didn't think of it before. I list myself as being employed by my contracting company, rijConsulting. I can then show that I have been self employed at this for a number of years. Under that, I list many of the companies that I have worked for as clients. You can see the effect in the picture I have included in this post.
